The New Media Consortium (NMC) is an “international community of experts in educational technology -from the practitioners who work with new technology on campuses every day; to the visionaries who are shaping the future of learning at think tanks, labs and research centers; to its staff and board of directors; to the advisory boards and others helping the NMC conduct cutting edge research”.
This semester, the NMC is hosting a free webinar series called NMC on the Horizon. These events are scheduled at 9:00 am on Wednesday mornings, but you will need to set up an account with NMC (Chadron State College holds an institutional membership).
The first of these events will take place on September 3, 2014 at 9:00 am, and is titled “Rearranging Learning Spaces”. This one-hour session will be held in the Google+ On Air platform and broadcasted live on YouTube. Participation is free for all attendees. Event description from NMC
“There is a focused movement to reinvent traditional learning spaces and rearrange the entire educational experience — a trend that is largely being driven by the influence of innovative learning approaches. Century-old practices in which students learn subject-by-subject, while uniformly facing the front of the classroom, are perceived by many as an antiquated approach to teaching and learning. The multidisciplinary nature of project-based learning, co-creation, and other contemporary approaches has brought attention to innovative designs of learning environments.”
Future titles and dates in this series include:
October 1 9:00 am NMC On the Horizon > Increasing Focus on Open Content
November 7 9:00 am NMC On the Horizon > Creating Authentic Learning Opportunities
December 3 9:00 am NMC On the Horizon > Competition from New Models of Learning
