The online learning company, lynda.com, provides opportunities to advance professional and personal development goals and acquire new skills in a wide range of topics from business and technology to art and design. The company’s extensive online library of courses and tutorials is a valuable resource for faculty and staff interested in exploring academic areas of interest, seeking professional development, or looking to fulfill a MAP or PAR goal.
Currently, this service is free and available to CSC faculty and staff in Academic Affairs. The Teaching & Learning Center (TLC) has a limited number of lynda.com licenses available for use, so leap at this chance to “check out” a license and learn something new at your own pace!
Lynda.com courses are comprised of several workshop video lessons, which are between 5 to 20 minutes in length. A complete course generally features several lessons that may take several hours to complete. However, users may choose to view only selected lessons, skip lessons, or repeat lessons by using an index provided for each course.
To gain free access to lynda.com, simply complete the Request Access form on the TLC Website. After submitting this form, you will receive an email with account credentials and instructions. User access is limited to eight weeks. Once the eight-week period expires, you will receive certificates of completion for any tutorials or courses you have finished.
The lynda.com library is updated weekly with new courses and tutorials, and the collection is extensive. For this reason, TLC staff members have developed a list of recommendations. To view these, click on the Recommendations tab on the TLC’s Courses & Tutorials on Lynda page. Click on course links to preview content; to access the full course, you will need to check out one of the TLC licenses.
