Computers are great for getting things done. Unfortunately, as is the case with many tools, computing can take up a lot of time and energy. This is why automation software is heroic; it steps in and elbows inefficiency out of the way!
Because professors spend a good deal of their time writing, editing, and grading papers, text automation and expansion tools are particularly useful. Boiled down to its essence, text automation and expansion makes it possible for a writer to type a short snippet of text to generate a longer, predefined text. I will be available to meet with you in the LLC coffee shop on Thursday, 29 October 2015, 9:45-10:30 am to discuss any of the items within this update, voice concerns, or discuss other topics of interest. A second attachment is a snapshot of the National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE) survey results.
The online learning company, lynda.com, provides opportunities to advance professional and personal development goals and acquire new skills in a wide range of topics from business and technology to art and design. The company’s extensive online library of courses and tutorials is a valuable resource for faculty and staff interested in exploring academic areas of interest, seeking professional development, or looking to fulfill a MAP or PAR goal.
Currently, this service is free and available to CSC faculty and staff in Academic Affairs. The Teaching & Learning Center (TLC) has a limited number of lynda.com licenses available for use, so leap at this chance to “check out” a license and learn something new at your own pace!
As technology develops at an accelerating pace, it is important to stay current with the latest instructional technology trends. The Teaching & Learning Center aspires to provide the resources necessary for evaluating technologies that have the potential to alter the instructional landscape at Chadron State College.
The TLC blog is itself an example of how technology alters the way in which we now share knowledge; it has become a resource to communicate newly acquired products and newly developed services offered by the TLC. These resources also include specifically designated faculty multiuse spaces designed so that technically adept staff are always nearby to help. We anticipate providing a Teaching & Learning Center that incorporates modern wireless standards and provides a test-bed for proofing a variety of technologies for classroom and online environments.
