Interlibrary Loan (ILL) opens up a wealth of research possibilities for Chadron State College faculty, students, and staff. The Library Learning Commons (LLC) is part of an agreement between thousands of libraries nationwide that facilitates easy sharing of library materials. Books and journal articles not available at the LLC may be borrowed from other libraries through this service. Materials on such disparate topics as microbiology, classic cinema, historical perspectives on race and gender, and current trends in education are all available through ILL.
If you’d like to expand your research beyond materials available in Chadron, proceed to the LLC’s ILL webpage and complete the proper ILL request form. After we receive your request, we will tap into our network to get this material for you.
Once your material arrives, we will contact you via email or phone. Although most materials arrive about a week after the initial request, it is not uncommon for some materials to take 2-3 weeks. Delivery times vary widely, as these depend upon availability, distance of the lending library from Chadron, weather conditions along the postal route, and other factors.
Although there are some costs associated with ILL, the LLC covers the majority of these expenses. There is a small charge for students (books are $2.00; articles are 10¢ per page), and there is generally no charge for faculty or staff. However, on rare occasions, lending libraries charge an extended fee for their materials. In these cases, the LLC covers the initial $10.00 and the postage; the remaining fee is left to the person who requested the material.
Most interlibrary loans are made for a period extending 2 weeks to 1 month, depending on the policies of the lending library. When patrons are finished with the materials, they should be returned to the LLC, so we can return it to the lending library.
