The LLC will soon have a new crop of student artwork in the basement’s Rotating Art Gallery. On October 23, the LLC held a Painting in the Library event, which was designed with two main goals: to provide students with an artistic outlet for stress relief and to add visual interest to the library’s walls.
Last year, we partnered with Residence Life Association (RLA) to hold our first Painting in the Library event. It was well-received, and numerous students said they hoped we would host another one, so we decided to partner with RLA for the 2nd annual Painting in the Library. For more information about how the initial event came to be, check out our write-up from last year: http://academic.csc.edu/llc/blog/?p=2598
RA Sadie Sheppard returned to run the program again, and RAs Aydin Garvin, Jacob Muir, Lydia Privett, and Lani Stewart assisted. LLC staff Kristol Cummings, Christine Fullerton, and Whitney Hensley helped plan and run the event. 23 students painted canvases, and around 10 others stopped by to visit and check out the event.
Once again, we were amazed by the creativity and talent of our students. This event is now a favorite for the LLC because we get to walk by beautiful artwork each week. We hope that you will stop by to admire the work, too!
It takes a little bit of time to add hooks and prepare the art for hanging. The paintings will be hung in early November and will remain on display until early May. Any students that would like to retrieve their artwork can do so during Spring Finals Week.
