The Project Strive TRiO program has a “newbie” on their team. Claudia Magnusson began her role as the Academic Advisor on September 30, 2019. Ms. Magnusson is originally from Colombia, South America; and, since moving to the United States, she has lived in Missouri, Florida, Mexico and now Nebraska. She holds a Master’s degree in Family Counseling and a Master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling. Prior to accepting the Academic Advisor position, Magnusson worked at Regional West in Scottsbluff as a clinical therapist. With the exception of teaching at a local college in Mexico, her previous work experience has been primarily in the clinical field.
One of the reasons Ms. Magnusson was interested in this position was the opportunity to work with college students. She feels the college environment is so refreshing and she enjoys the variety of cultures, backgrounds, and ideas that come together on campus. As an Academic Advisor, her main responsibility is providing academic advising to students who participate in Project Strive. According to Magnusson, her goal is to visit with the students, help them stay on track, and ultimately succeed during their tenure as a student at Chadron State College.
During her spare time, Ms. Magnusson enjoys walking, hiking, and working out. She is happily married and shares a fur baby with her husband, Mark Magnusson, the pastor of the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Chadron. Magnusson is in her office Monday through Wednesday from 8 am to 3pm and on Thursday from 8 am to 11pm. She can be contacted via email at firstname.lastname@example.org or via phone at 308.432.6257.
