On August 23rd, 2018, the Library Learning Commons Staff hosted a travel themed event encouraging students to explore the various services offered in the LLC as part of the Week of Welcome. Notable services and programs located in the library were responsible for representing different destinations. For example:
–Transitional Studies – Wilderness (Campus Survival skills were addressed)
–Learning Lab – Backpacking through Europe (backpack-based memory challenge games were offered)
–IT Help Desk – Las Vegas (computer security issues and phishing emails were reviewed)
–Project Strive/TRiO – Hawaii (the “home away from home” atmosphere was promoted)
Stephanie Glass, Transitional Studies staff, and Will Morgan, CSC student, organized a scavenger hunt and passport activity that consisted of visiting and taking pictures of various locations, library collections, and services offered in the library. Members of the English Honors society on campus (Sigma Tau Delta) and library student workers assisted with directing the student participants through the scavenger hunt and passport-themed activity.
Throughout the day, cookies, fresh fruit, donuts, and water were available for all LLC visitors. The event wrapped up late that afternoon. Alyssa Ermish, an English Major from Wall, SD, was selected as the winner of the raffle—receiving a tablet for her participation.
