The Project Strive TRiO Program is one of the many services housed in the Library Learning Commons
The TRiO Staff consists of the Director, a Licensed Student Counselor, a Retention Specialist and an Academic Advisor.
Jennifer Schaer is the Director of Project Strive. As the Director, she oversees programs and activities hosted by their department, develops, implements, monitors and revises the budget, and prepares reports for the Department of Education and the Chadron State College Administration. She also assists students with academic advising, career planning, schedule building and financial literacy. While she certainly enjoys working with her amazing staff, the most rewarding aspect of her job is watching the Project Strive students walk across the stage during graduation ceremonies. Jennifer has two cats- Buddy and Squirt. When she isn’t playing with her cats, she enjoys cooking, writing, working on house improvements and yardwork.
The Licensed Student Counselor is Sonja Dressel. Her primary duty is providing professional counseling services for all Project Strive participants (relationship problems, drug and alcohol related issues, homesickness, and any mental health concerns). In addition to counseling students, she also assists with career and academic counseling. Her outside interests include watching movies, listening to music and spending time with her husband, Nick and her son Aidan.
Amanda Lewin is the Retention Specialist. One of her main responsibilities is planning educational and cultural events for the Project Strive students. She also assists with academic advising, schedule building, financial literacy and career guidance. She particularly enjoys working with the students and helping them reach their academic goals. In her free time, Amanda enjoys traveling and spending time with family and friends.
The “newbie” on the Project Strive team is Dana Tewahade. Dana began her role as Academic Advisor in September 2017. She helps students “beef up” their study and organization skills through group and individual activities, assists in building schedules, and exploring options in relation to career paths. Dana enjoys working with her fantastic co-workers and loves the students – she feels that they have so much potential and life success ahead of them. When she isn’t watching her two daughters’ athletic, vocal, and dance performances, she enjoys cooking various ethnic cuisine, singing, creating art, exercising, and traveling with her family.
Project Strive TRiO is located in Room 112 on the Lower Level of the Library Learning Commons. Their regular office hours are Monday – Friday 7:30 am – 4:30 pm.
