One of the LLC’s major projects for 2014-2018 is to revitalize the Library’s print collection. A big part of this goal is ordering new books that align with CSC’s curricula and promote faculty and student interest in utilizing the resources. . Each year, CSC librarians research the needs of CSC’s academic departments and recommend book additions that will bolster the disciplines. The librarians look at various sources to compile these lists, most notably Resources for College Libraries (RCL). RCL is a recommended core collection for all academic libraries as determined by the Association of College and Research Libraries (ACRL).
This month, library liaisons sent recommended book lists to the chairs of all academic departments. Department chairs have been encouraged to share these lists with their colleagues and to make decisions on their book selections jointly. We also encourage faculty to make suggestions for additional relevant book purchases that do not appear on the list.
Depending on the availability of funds, the library is occasionally able to make purchases beyond the department chair-library liaison process. If you have a book request that falls outside of your department’s purview (or you are not affiliated with a specific academic department), you can still make book requests. Simply fill out the Faculty Purchase Request form found at http://www.csc.edu/library/forms/facultyRequest.csc. Books requested should meet the academic needs of the college.
If you have questions about this process, please contact any of the librarians (firstname.lastname@example.org).
