One of the many services offered in the LLC is the Learning Center. Services provided by the Learning Center include:
- Peer Tutoring
- Supplemental Instruction
- Writing Center
- Speaking Center
- Back on Track program
These free services are available to all CSC students.
Peer Tutoring is offered in most subject areas. Peer tutors provide additional assistance to help students succeed. The tutors are CSC students recommended by the faculty; they receive extensive tutor training, and provide one on one or group assistance.
Supplemental Instruction (SI) is a series of weekly review sessions for students enrolled in challenging courses. SI leaders are students recommended by the faculty who have previously taken the course, and performed well. This semester, SI review sessions are offered for Chemistry 1, Organic Chemistry, and Pre-Algebra. SI is open to all students and attendance is voluntary.
The Writing Center is a collaborative learning service dedicated to working one-on-one with student writers. The Writing Center provides assistance in subject clarification, idea development, sentence structure, and grammar guidelines.
The Speaking Center offers organizational, delivery, and presentation strategies for students struggling with major class presentation projects. The LLC has classrooms furnished with media software and equipment that can be reserved for practice and preparation.
Back on Track is a program facilitated to aid students who have been placed on academic probation. This program is similar to the Peer Tutoring Program. Students in need of assistance (mentees) are paired with mentors (tutors). The mentees are required to meet with the mentors once a week and attend monthly Back on Track mentor/mentee meetings.
The Learning Center hours are:
- Monday, Tuesday, Thursday 9am – 9pm
- Wednesday 9am – 5pm
- Sunday 5pm – 7pm
